Instructions for Upgrading from an Old Version to the Latest Version of the Publisher Theme
Assumptions:
- You have an old version of the Drupal 6.x Publisher theme installed on your site.
- You have a copy of the latest version of the publisher theme. Currently version: publisher-6.x-1.5 – if you do not have this version then send a request using the contact form – please include your order email or order number so we can verify that you are a paying customer.
1. As a precaution, take a backup of your database. If you don’t know how to do this then please ask your hosting company for specific instructions.
2. Take a backup of the publisher module. To do this login to your FTP account, go to sites/all/modules/publisher and download the publisher folder. If you still have a copy of this folder on your computer then this step is not necessary, it’s just a precaution so that you can restore it if you have issues with the upgrade.
3. Go to: <your site>/admin/settings/site-maintenance and put your site in off-line mode.
4. Go to: <your site>/admin/build/themes and change the default theme to Garland.
5. Go to: <your site>/admin/build/modules and disable the publisher module by unchecking the box next to it and clicking on the save button.
6. If you see an error message after you disable the publisher module then enable and disable it again and it should work the second time.
7. Go to: <your site>/admin/build/modules/uninstall and uninstall the publisher module.
8. Connect to your site using FTP and go to the sites/all/modules folder. Delete the publisher folder and replace it with the publisher folder from the latest version.
9. Upload the “publish_D6_1_5” theme located in the new version into the sites/all/themes folder. Please do not delete the existing “publish” theme.
10. Go back to <your site>/admin/build/modules and check the box next to the publisher module and click save to enable it.
11. Go to: <your site>/admin/build/themes and enable the new theme (publisher-6.x-1.5) as the default.
12. Go to: <your site>/admin/build/blocks:
A. Click the configure link beside each block to update the visibility settings for publisher blocks named: Featured 1, 2, 3, and 4
Featured block 1, 2, and 3 – set as “show on only the listed pages” and under Pages: put <front>. If this is already setup then please still click save block otherwise this block will show on every page.
Featured block 4 – this will show on every page, if you don’t want this to show on every page then click configure and change the page specific visibility settings as desired.
B. Assign the featured blocks to the following regions:
Featured block 1 = content top
Featured block 2 = Features block 2
Featured block 3 = Features block 3
Featured block 4 = Right side bar
Configure and assign your other blocks following the same steps. You will need to do this in order for the block titles and page visibility settings to work properly.
If you’d like the same layout as the demo, you can assign the blocks as follows:
Featured Flicks = Featured Video
Recent Comments = Right Sidebar
New Forum Topics = Right Bottom
Top Sections = Left Sidebar
Global News = Left Sidebar Bottom
Important Note: Do not assign primary links, the search form, or the secondary links. These will already show at the top of the template as shown in the demo.
13. If your images are not showing properly in the featured blocks then you may need to flush the imagecache. Go to: <your site>/admin/build/imagecache and click flush next to each item below:
featured_block_1
featured_block_2
featured_block_3
featured_block_4
14. Check your website to see if everything is now working properly. If yes then go to: <your site>/admin/settings/site-maintenance and turn the site back online. If not then make notes of the issues, take screenshots if possible, and send a support request to support
themesnap [dot] com – Until we can assist you, please go to: <your site>/admin/build/themes and change your default theme back to the old “publish” theme.
