Instructions for Installing the Magazine Plus Drupal 6.x Theme with Installation Profile
Guide for setting up the Magazine Plus premium Drupal theme for Drupal 6.x (with profile installation)
- Purchase the Magazine Plus theme with included .zip file.
- Upload content of "Magazine-Plus" to your root directory (usually within public_html on most hosts). Note: The contents of the Magazine-Plus folder have the latest stable version of Drupal already included.
- While the contents are uploading to your server, set up a MySQL database with username/password (make a note of these three things as you'll be asked to enter those after you get to the next few steps).
- Once all of the files have uploaded to your server, visit the domain or directory you installed Drupal (Ex: hxxp://www.yourdomain.com).
- Select "DrupalMagazine 6.x Easy Installer"
- Follow the steps thereafter and complete the installation.
- Once you visit your new website, go to your user account (which is usually websitename.com/user/1/edit) and make sure the user email address and passwords set up as desired.
- You may need to clear the caches within the website after it's installed, especially if you are having trouble with images appearing. You can find the clear cache link within http://www.yoursitename.com/admin/settings/pe... (bottom).
Installation Troubleshooting
If you run into any issues with installing once you have selected "DrupalMagazine 6.x Easy Installer" and proceeded to the next step it's likely to be one of these common issues:
- The following error must be resolved before you can continue the installation process:
The DrupalMagazine 6.x Easy Installer installer requires that you create a settings file as part of the installation process.1. Copy the ./sites/default/default.settings.php file to ./sites/default/settings.php.
2. Change file permissions so that it is writable by the web server. If you are unsure how to grant file permissions, please consult the on-line handbook. - Your server does not support clean URLs. See your hosting provider to solve this issue or visit Drupal.org to find out more about 'clean URLs.'
If you're still having issues setting the theme up, please post in the Magazine Plus Installation forum section for help or contact customer support.
Front Page - Dynamic Block (Top Slider) Setup
- 1A. The demo theme's dynamic block setup uses this "tag" for placing certain content in the dynamic block region: "dynamic" (Example: http://www.themesnap.com/theme-demos/magazine... - View the "tag" at the bottom of the article)
- 1B. To change the name of this to "featured" or even assign specific category articles to only display here, you need to visit this page within your admin section: http://<yoursitename>.com/admin/build/views/e...
- 1C. On that page you'll see under "Filters" a filter called "Taxonomy Term." You'll also see that it's set to "dynamic," the tag mentioned in (1A) above. You can click the "Taxonomy: Term:" text link here and change the taxonomy term to reflect where you want the dynamic block articles pulled from (this could be any other category name that you're using). Then click "Update" and "Save"
- 1D. Setting the slider effects may be tricky since there are so many options within the Dynamic Display Block (ddblock) module. If you want your slider transitions to occur more smoothly, please follow the same setup as we've done within our Magazine Plus demo. Screenshot: http://www.themesnap.com/theme-testing/images...
Front Page - Featured Blocks Setup
- 2A. Changing the 4 featured articles below the top slider on the front page is easy as well. Simply log in as "admin" (the first user created that has admin privileges) if you're not already logged in, then hover over the front page featured article images (any of the 4 displayed). You should now see three links display above each of the front page (4) featured images called "Edit, Export, and Clone" when you hover over any of the 4 images. Click on the "Edit" link.
- 2B. Now the steps are the same as (1C) mentioned above. Simply change the "Taxonomy: Term" under "Filters" to reflect the article placed there from your custom categories. Note: There are 4 different blocks, meaning you can show up to 4 different category or tagged articles for each one of these blocks if you wish.
